A Bartow man was allegedly robbed and kidnapped after trying to sell a pit bull dog through a Craigslist ad he has posted on the website.

According to a Bartow County Sheriff's deputy's report, the victim was found walking in a roadway near Cedar Creek Road with several bleeding lacerations and a pit bull dog in the cab of a truck.

The man said he went to Roth Lane to meet with an unknown subject who wanted to purchase the dog he had listed on Craigslist. While at the apartments, the victim demonstrated the dog's abilities to mind and obey basic commands, but the supposed buyer wanted to go somewhere other than the parking lot.

The pair drove in the victim's truck to the nearby Shell Station on Cassville Road but the suspect wanted to go to another location where the dog was to be left. At that point, the suspect said he wanted to drive because he knew the way. Feeling uneasy about allowing the suspect to drive his vehicle, the victim called his friend at the Roth Lane apartments who told him the suspect was good and vouched for him.

While driving, the suspect allegedly pulled a small, black automatic pistol, pointed it at the victim's head and demanded money. They continued driving, turning onto Cedar Creek Road, where the suspect lowered the gun and pointed it at the victim's torso.

The victim said he then tried to take the gun by pulling his own pocketknife and grabbing the steering wheel. The vehicle crashed and the suspect went out the driver's side window, jumped the fence, ran up to the roadway and around the rear of the truck, jumped the fence that had been knocked down and fled into the woods with the weapon.

A witness gave the same account of the wreck before he called 911.
