Cass High started its net season perfectly as the girls and boys tennis teams administered 5-0 thumpings — one aided by a forfeit — against Paulding County.

“Any time you can open your season with a win, it’s a good start,” head coach Chris Allen said. “It also gave us an opportunity to step off the practice court and face some real opposition.”

Collecting the wins in singles play for the Lady Colonels were, line 1, Hannah Delia, 8-2; line 2, Hannah Howard, 8-2; and line 3, Aleigh Beard, 4-0 (retired). Doubles victories went to Ally Prewett and Mitzi Johnson, 8-3; and Hannah Dunlap and Lauren Simonson, 8-0.

Winning in the boys’ singles matches were: line 1, forfeit; line 2, Jake Barnette, 8-0; line 3, Joey Johnson, 8-0. In doubles play, Kaleb McBrayer and Matt Moore claimed an 8-3 win while Sean Lipinski and Brad DeLee earned an 8-0 win in doubles line 2.

“The match also showed us some areas we can improve in even though we won,” Allen added. “That’s always important, too.”

Cass returns to the nets on Thursday, when it hosts North Paulding at Hamilton Crossing.

The matches start at 4:45 p.m.
