Cartersville opened up region play Saturday night with a sparkling 3-1 win over Dalton on the road in high school baseball action.

The Canes scored in the top of the first against the Catamounts, then tacked on two insurance runs in the third. Dalton answered in the fifth inning with a single run, ending scoring for the evening.

Cartersville tallied 7 hits on the evening, but its players were credited with 2 errors.

The Canes improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAA with the victory. Dalton fell to 1-4, 0-1.

Cartersville returns to the diamond Monday, when it visits Southeast Whitfield in its second region matchup in as many games. The game is to start at 5:55 p.m.
