Judges prepare for first round of criminal trials

Aggravated assault, arson and armed robbery are expected to occupy the courtrooms of Judges Carey Nelson and David Smith this week as they move into the first set of criminal trials to span over the next two weeks.

In Judge Nelson's courtroom, Twana Wright is expected to appear. She is charged with obstruction of law enforcement, aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding police officer as well as suspended license from a Feb. 26, 2011 incident. Also in Nelson's court holding priority will be: Lisa Hinds and Tracy Waller are charged with possession of marijuana, robbery and entering auto; Christopher Kerr is charged with aggravated assault and family violence battery; Rudolph Ebinger is charged with theft by taking; James Fortenberry is charged with failure to register as a sex offender; David Hall is charged with deposit account fraud and Ansley Fowler is charged with three counts of DUI and driving on the wrong side of the road.

In Judge David Smith's court, Ivory Alonzo Brooks faces a charge of armed robbery. Brooks allegedly entered the United Community Bank on Oct. 18, 2011 and handed the teller a demand note saying, "I have a gun. No dye packs. All $20s and $100s."

Also in Smith's courtroom, priority cases expected to appear are: Abron Allen Browning for two cases where he is collectively charged with attempt to commit arson, criminal damage to property, two counts of terroristic threats, attempting to elude police officer, hindering law enforcement, simple battery and simple assault; Manvel Arnez Benning, Jessica Danyell Harvey and Timothy Devon Johnson are charged with sale of cocaine, distributing cocaine within 1,000 feet of a public school and possession of cocaine; Heather Noelle Bradford is charged with theft by receiving stolen property and two counts of possession of firearm by a convicted felon; Charles Robert Baker is charged with burglary and Joe Edwin Benham is charged with theft by receiving stolen property, theft by deception and two counts of prohibited act by pawnbroker.
