Cartersville Fire Station 3 responded to a fire off Ga. Highway 113 Sunday morning. As they approached the area, firefighters reported heavy black smoke and quickly discovered that the source of the flames, a vehicle, was on the opposite side of the Etowah River.
Battalion Chief Mark Bagley was the first to arrive on scene with assistance from the county's mini-pumper four-wheel drive truck and extinguishers. The fully involved vehicle was a total loss. No injuries were reported.
Both departments assisted EMS with several medical calls. According to a Bartow County Fire Department spokesman, one call resulted in a small child being flown to a nearby hospital though no further information was reported. Vehicle accidents also kept emergency responders busy. Neither the county or city of Cartersville reported any serious accidents with injuries.
