The boys and girls track and field teams from Woodland added another sweep to their season total, which reached three Saturday as both teams claimed championships at the Ronnie McClurg Invitational at Dalton High -- formerly the Dalton Rotary Invitational. The Woodland boys have won four invitationals this month.

The Woodland boys scored 101 points to finish ahead of Grady, 72; Dalton, 62; Northwest Whitfield, 53; Gordon Central, 48.5; Villa Rica, 46.5; Cartersville, 44; Model, 43; Calhoun, 37; LaFayette, 35; North Murray, 29; Pickens, 27; Chattanooga's Brainerd, 14; and Murray County, 12.

Individual winners for the Wildcats included the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams and Deo Adams in the 300 hurdles.

Woodland's girls accumulated 148 points to place in front of Northwest Whitfield, 109; Grady, 94; Cartersville, 52; Villa Rica, 46; Gordon Central, 42; Pickens, 36.5; Dalton, 36; Calhoun, 19.5; North Murray, 14; and LaFayette, 12.

Idraiah Thompson led the Lady Wildcats with wins in the 100 and 200 and also anchored the first-place 4x100 relay team. Katie Harris and Brianna Brown had Woodland's other wins. Harris won the 400, and Brown set a school record in the high jump.

According to The (Dalton) Daily Citizen, Cartersville's Caroline Haupt won the girls' best runner award for the meet. Haupt had victories in the 100 and 300 hurdles with times of 15.28 and 48.33 seconds, respectively.

Adrian Steele, Woodland boys coach, said he was excited to see Grady, a team out of Atlanta. "That's where you're most dominating track teams are [from]," Steele added.

Both Woodland teams more than held their own and will look to build on that performance at Thursday's Bartow County Championships, which are being held at Cass High.

Steele said Woodland will train hard for the county meet before heading to spring break. He said the teams likely continue their workout routine during spring break, practicing from Wednesday to Friday of next week.

"I don't think we can afford to have a whole week off and then go back into the season," Steele admitted.
