He was born to the late Ed and Ella Franklin McClendon. He was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist and served his church faithfully until his health started failing. He enlisted with the United States Navy, and served for two years. He retired from Good Year Tire & Rubber Plant after 35 years.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Margie Ruth Moore McClendon for 62 years. To this union nine children were born. He was preceded in death by a son, Rev. Paul McClendon and daughter, Paulette Bannister.
He leaves to cherish his memories seven children: Geneva Cooper (Rufus), Jesse Edward McClendon (Janice), Frederick Eugene McClendon (Marty), Bonnette Cooper, Michael McClendon (Vanessa), Danny Ray McClendon, Rochelle Ellis (Jeffrey); daughter-in-law: Selena McClendon; sister-in-law Mrs. Mary Moore; 23 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
