Avery C. Holland, 95, of Maple Drive Cartersville, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012.

Mr. Holland was born April 17, 1916, in Stephens County, the son of the late Paul and Margie Belle (Martin) Holland.

He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1937 and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He was employed by the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Georgia, for a number of years. He was employed in Winder, Hiawassee, Dawsonville and Cartersville, where he was Bartow County Agriculture Extension Agent and served as President of the Georgia State County Agents Association. During his career he touched the lives of countless boys and girls in 4H clubs and produced a number of state and national 4H winners.

In the 1950s and 1960s, he wrote a weekly column in The Daily Tribune News called "From the Desk of Avery Holland." He also did a live radio program on WBHF called "Farm Radio Journal." He was a member for 61 years and past president of the Cartersville Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a devoted member of the Euharlee Farmers Club. He was a member of Sam Jones United Methodist Church since 1951 and was a member and Teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia Durham (Williams) Holland.

Surviving are his daughters, Laurie Weaver of Cartersville, Jane Mroczko and her husband, Tom of Cartersville; grandchildren, Amy Bishop, John and Jill Mroczko, Jonathan and Hope Weaver, Justin and Leslie Weaver; great-grandchildren, Avery Weaver, Noah Weaver, Ella Weaver, Dawson Bishop, Jack Mroczko; sisters, Lucille Whitten, Grace Crowe, Faye Campbell, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at Sam Jones United Methodist Church with Rev. Nina Jones and Rev. Jimmy Gainey officiating.

The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Weaver, Justin Weaver, John Mroczko, Matthew Gambill, Keith Crowe and Gary Crowe.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Euharlee Farmers Club and the Cartersville Rotary Club.
