Cooper fans 15 as Tigers win in Cartersville Little League play

Jake Cooper and Grant Harris combined for a 5-hit shutout as the Tigers defeated the Crackers, 7-0, in Little League baseball play Monday.

Cooper had 15 strikeouts in five innings while throwing 78 pitches. Harris used nine pitches to retire three out of the four batters he faced in the sixth inning.

Also, Cooper hit a 2-run home run in the top of the third to break a scoreless tie. John Reed Evans hit a 3-run home run in the sixth to put the Tigers ahead, 6-0. Gage Morris knocked in the other 2 runs for the Tigers with 3 hits.

For the Crackers, Joshua Mayo had 3 hits, and Benjamin Ammons and Levi Pickel each had 1 hit.

Hitting for the Tigers were Evans, 3 hits with 2 doubles, a home run, 2 runs and 3 RBIs; Morris, 3 hits with a double, 2 RBIs; Cooper, 2 hits with a double, a home run, 2 runs and 2 RBIs; Harris, 2 hits with a run; Micah Tart, 2 hits with a run; Brady Craig, 2 hits with a run; Brandon Hodge, base on balls.

Pitching for the Crackers were Mayo, 1 inning and 16 pitches with 1 strikeout; Will Bentley, 5 innings and 85 pitches with 4 strikeouts; Benjamin Ammons, 1 inning and 15 pitches.



Phillies 14, Braves 2

The Phillies scored 5 runs in the first inning on a RBI double by Khase Willis, a 2-RBI triple by Derrick Pearson, and an RBI single by Nick Root on their way to whipping the Braves, 14-2.

The Phillies scored 9 more runs in the second inning on hits by 8 players, including triples by Josh Holmes and Willis, doubles by Jordon Wells and Root, and singles by Pearson, Karson Hornberger, Jordan Blackmon and Bailey Ward.

Blane Belisario, Holmes, and Ward combined in a 2-hitter for the Phillies.

For the Braves, JP Martin had 1 hit with a double, a sacrifice fly and an RBI, and Byers Murray had 1 hit with a walk and a run.

The game was called after 3 1/2 innings due to the 10-run rule.

Colts 13, Dodgers 9

In a high-scoring game with 22 runs and 20 hits by 14 different players, the Colts outlasted the Dodgers 13-9.

The Colts jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on a double by Tyler Friedrich, a single by Chris Mills and a triple by Tyler Bird. The Dodgers rallied to take a 5-4 lead after 2 innings on key hits by Max Rohland, Trevor Lawrence, Matthew Greene and Trey Harkins. The Colts scored 6 runs in the fifth inning and 1 run in the sixth to take a 13-6 lead, and then held on as the Dodgers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final score, 13-9.

Hitting for the Colts were Mills, 3 hits with a double, 2 runs and 3 RBIs; Tyler Bird, 2 hits with a triple, a walk, 3 runs and an RBI; Connor Wall, 1 hit with 3 bases on balls, 2 runs; Tyler Friedrich, 1 hit with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI; Jonah Gambill, 1 hit with a run and an RBI; Zach Hall, 1 hit with a run, an RBI; Jake Richards, 1 hit with a run; Kaison Williams, a base on balls and a run; Logan Cagle, hit by pitch and a run.

Emmanuel Jones and Jacob Frye led the Padres to an 8-7 victory over the Indians.
