Born Oct. 16, 1939, in Fulton County, he was the son of the late James Lester Ayers and the late Laura Aileen Darnell Ayers.
Mr. Ayers was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. He was also a Mason of the Euharlee Lodge, a member of the Tri-County Cruizers and enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting old cars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kathryn "Jan" Ayers; his children, Deborah Ayers Nation (Jeff), Ed Ayers Jr. (Gwen), Chris Ayers (Amanda), and Ben Ayers (Jill); his grandchildren, Denita Nation, Brian Nation, Kyle Ayers, Autum Ayers, Brianna Ayers, Ava Ayers, Levi Ayers and Jake Ayers; his great-grandchildren, Zachary Nation and Savannah Belle Nation; his brothers, Rodney Ayers (Peggy) and Sidney Ayers (Pam); his mother-in-law, Kathryn Mauney, 93; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Tommy Green and John Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Servings as pallbearers will be Chris Ayers, Kyle Ayers, Brian Nation, Jeff Lancaster, Kevin Lancaster and Bob Collum. Rodney Ayers, Charles McFarland and John Martin will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the funeral home.
