Mr. Owens was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Bartow County, the son of the late Henry K. Sr. and Emma Annele (Wade) Owens. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy Reserve Armed Guard, was retired from Lockheed Corporation, was a member of the American Legion, a member of the Cartersville Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, was a volunteer at Hickory Log Vocational School, was a little league baseball coach and past president of the Cartersville Little League, worked with the Boy Scouts for many years, was a licensed real estate agent and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and past superintendent.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Idelle Allen Owens; a sister, Audi Mae Guess; a brother, Harold Grey Owens; and a niece, Pamela Owens.
Surviving are his wife, LaVerne (Hatfield) Owens of Cartersville; children, Kenny Owens (Hope) of Dublin, Marta Owens of Cartersville; grandchildren, Mandi Annele Smith-Tant (Kevin), Judson Lee Smith (Katie), Alicia Rae Owens-Pruitt (fiancé-Chad McMurrian), Greyson Kennon Owens (Lauren), Mollie Anne Smith (Charlie Hanavich), Anthony Jake Flanders; great-grandchildren, Emma Marie Pruitt, Mulaney Abigail Tant, Jack Aldridge Pruitt, Jacey Klaire Tant, Sydney James Tant, Samuel Kennon Owens, Madilyn Ann Smith; a sister, Wilma Abernathy of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens with the Rev. Clinton Green officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday morning from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
