Born in the Bronx on June 29, 1934, he was the son of the late James Murphy and the late Nora McGreal Murphy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Patricia Ryan Murphy; his brothers, Donald Murphy and Edward Murphy; and his sister, Eileen Murphy Hoffman.
Jim served his country in the Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. He continued his education and had an esteemed career earning his Doctorate in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Jim also had degrees from Valdosta State University, Providence College and Hunter College. He spent the last part of his career as a professor for Troy University until the time of his retirement.
Survivors include his sons, James "Jay" Murphy of Cartersville and John Murphy of Monroe, N.Y.; and his daughter, Mary-Anne Murphy Haver of Hillsborough, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. Kim Buchanan and the Rev. Michael Zwenke officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. A service will also be held at a later date in New Jersey with entombment following in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, N.J.
