Hodge, Evans combine for Little League shutout

Brandon Hodge and John Reed Evans combined for a no-hit shutout as the Tigers defeated the Braves, 10-0, in Cartersville Little League play Monday.

Hodge pitched the first inning with 11 pitches and 2 strikeouts, and Evans pitched the final 3 innings with 39 pitches and 7 strikeouts in a game that was called in the bottom of the fourth due to the 10-run rule.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on singles by Evans and Grant Harris. They stretched the lead to 4-0 in the third on a single by Jake Cooper and a 2-RBI single by Gage Morris. In the fourth, the Tigers went ahead 10-0 on a single by Brady Evans, an RBI-single by John Reed Evans, RBI-doubles by Cooper and Harris, and a walk-off 2-RBI single by Koby Jordan.

For the Braves, Austin Baker reached on an error in the first, and Hayes Miller drew a walk in the third.

For the Tigers offensively, Harris had 2 hits with a double, a walk, 3 runs and 2 RBIs; Cooper, 2 hits with a double, 2 runs and an RBI; Evans, 2 hits with 2 runs and an RBI; Morris, 1 hit with a walk, a run and 3 RBIs; Koby Jordan, 1 hit with 2 RBIs; Hodge, 1 hit with a walk and a run; Brady Evans, 1 hit with a run.

The Braves were led on the mound by J.P. Martin, who threw 4 innings and 74 pitches with 6 strikeouts, and Miller, 1 inning and 19 pitches with 1 strikeout.

Phillies 9, Dodgers 6

Khase Willis hit a two-run homer in the first inning to help power the Phillies to a 9-6 victory over the Dodgers in Little League play Monday.

The Phillies also were led by Jordon Wells, with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs, and Blane Belisario, who had 2 hits with 2 runs. Five other Phillies had a hit each.

Trevor Lawrence, Matthew Greene and Trey Harkins led the Dodgers at the plate. Lawrence had 2 hits with 2 runs and an RBI; Greene singled and doubled and Harkins had 2 hits with a double, a walk and a run. Five other Dodgers had a hit each.

The Phillies also got contributions at the plate from Willis, 2 walks, 2 runs and 2 RBIs; Josh Holmes, 1 hit with 2 walks, 2 runs; Nick Root, 1 hit with a walk, a hit by pitch, a run and an RBI; Bailey Ward, a double; Will Fraser, 1 hit with a run; Reece Thompson, a walk and a run; Karson Hornberger, hit by pitch. On the mound, Jordan Blackmon worked 2 innings with 46 pitches; Belisario, 4 innings, 49 pitches with 3 strikeouts; Nick Root, 1 inning, 18 pitches with 1 strikeout; Willis, 1 inning, 14 pitches, 3 strikeouts.

Four Padres pitchers combined for a one-hitter and defeated the Colts, 17-1, in Little League play Monday.

Offensively for the Padres, Emmanuel Jones had 3 hits with a home run, a double, a walk, 3 runs and 5 RBIs. Jacob Frye had 2 hits with a triple, a walk, 3 runs and 2 RBIs. Dadrian Dennis had 2 hits with 2 runs.

For the Colts, Tyler Friedrich had a hit.

Also helping the Padres at the plate were Brant Smith, 1 hit with 2 runs; Garrett Geros, 1 hit with 2 walks and a run; Malik Watts, 1 hit with 3 runs; Walker Jones, 2 walks; Jaylen Knowles, a walk, 2 runs; Kurtis Feanny, a walk; Tyler Perry, a walk; and Sabien Lindo, a walk.
