Phillies come from behind, take 6-4 win in CLL tourney

Rallying for five runs late in the game, the Phillies came from behind to win, 6-4, against the Tigers Tuesday in the Cartersville Little League's postseason tournament.

Grant Harris' groundout scored John Reed Evans in the top of the first to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, but the Phillies tied the game on Jordon Wells' single in the bottom half of the inning.

The Tigers took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third when Evans reached on an error, Harris was hit by a pitch and Gage Morris and Brandon Hodge each hit run-scoring singles.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Phillies went ahead when Nick Root and Will Frasier each reached on an error and then scored on a two-RBI single by Karson Hornberger. Josh Holmes followed with a single. Misplayers by the Tigers allowed Hornberger and Holmes to score, giving the Phillies a one-run lead.

Bailey Ward's hit in the fifth scored the Phillies' final run.

Hitters for the Phillies were Hornberger, run, two RBIs; Root, two runs; Wells, RBI; Ward, RBI; Holmes, walk, run; and Blane Belisario, run. Khase Willis (walk, hit by a pitch) and Derrick Pearson (run) also contributed offensively for the victors.

Leading the effort from the mound in a winning cause were Root (three innings, 48 pitches, two strikeouts), Willis (one inning, 20 pitches, two strikeouts), Pearson (three innings, 34 pitches, one strikeout) and Reese Thompson (one inning, four pitches).

Jake Cooper pitched five innings for the Tigers, throwing 84 pitches and striking out eight batters.

Offensive leaders for the Tigers included Evans, hit, two walks, two runs; Morris, hit, RBI; Hodge, hit, RBI; Cooper, hit, walk; Harris, hit by a pitch, run, RBI; and Brady Evans, walk.

Below are other postseason tournament games from Tuesday.

Padres 13, Indians 3

Emmanuel Jones, Brant Smith and Jacob Frye combined to pitch a three-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Padres, who won 13-3 in their contest with the Indians.

Jones pitched two innings with 35 pitches and three strikeouts; Smith four innings with 35 pitches and three strikeouts; and Frye one inning with eight pitches and one strikeout.

The game was called in the bottom of the fourth due to the 10-run rule.

A familiar set of names led the Padres at the plate, with Jones collecting four hits (two doubles, three runs, four RBIs), Frye three (double, four runs, RBI) and Smith two (double, two runs, three RBIs). Other contributors were Jaylen Knowles (two hits, walk, three runs), Garrett Geros (double, run, RBI) and Kurtis Feanny (hit, RBI).

Dax Edwards (run) and Malcolm Cooley (double) had the Indians' only two hits of the game. Other baserunners were Garrett Hite (walk, run), Dylan Webb (walk, run), Ian Inaba (walk) and Brendon Walker (walk).

Taking the mound for the Indians were Hite (one inning, 20 pitches), Webb (one inning, 20 pitches, two strikeouts), Edwards (three innings, 19 pitches, three strikeouts) and Peyton Willoughby (two innings, 31 pitches, one strikeout).

Dodgers 20, Braves 4

Five Dodgers had two or more hits against the Braves, paving the way for a 20-4 Dodgers' victory.

Trevor Lawrence had three hits (double, home run, walk, four RBIs); Max Rohland three hits (four runs, two RBIs); Clay Ross three hits (double, two runs, RBI); Matthew Greene two hits (double, triple, walk, three RBIs); and Trey Harkins two hits (walk, three runs, RBI).

With a hit apiece, Juan Guerrero (double, walk, two runs, three RBIs), Tyler Dover (double, run, RBI), Cole Crump (two runs, three RBIs) and Keaun Thomas rounded out the base knocks for the Dodgers.

Ross, who threw 77 pitches, helped limit the Braves' offense, going four innings with one strikeout.

J.P. Martin led the Braves at the plate with two hits, adding a run and RBI as well. Austin Baker (walk, run), Trey Holstein (double, RBI), Baylor Agan (walk), Jackson Lovette and Hayes Miller each had a hit for the Braves, too. Other offensive production came from Byers Murray, who scored a run, and David Seanor, who drew a walk and later scored.

Braves pitchers were Miller (one inning, 19 pitches), Lovette (two innings, 46 pitches, two strikeouts) and Murray (two innings, 37 pitches).

Colts 8, Crackers 2

Tyler Bird delivered a strong pitching performance for the Colts, who won 8-2 over the Crackers.

Bird pitched five innings with 88 pitches and strikeouts. Chris Mills added two more strikeouts, pitching two innings and throwing 13 pitches.

Leading the way for the Colts on offense was Mills, who scored a run while recording a team- and game-high three hits. Other offensive leaders were Kaison Williams, two hits, two runs; Jake Richards, hit, run; Connor Wall, hit, run; Kaleb Chatmon, double, run; Jonah Gambill, hit, walk, run; Bird, three walks, run; Zach Hall, walk; and Caz Smith, hit.

Joshua Mayo (double, run), J.T. Mitchell (hit, run) and Joe Cave (hit) reached base with hits, while Evan Dasher walked once for the Crackers. Levi Pickel (four innings, 88 pitches, four strikeouts) and Mitchell (two innings, 29 pitches, two strikeouts) handled duties on the mound for the Crackers.
