Describing "Moon Over Buffalo" as a fast-paced, "well-written farce about theater," Corinne Scott is delighted to direct her second production penned by Ken Ludwig. Presented by the Pumphouse Players, the play will open June 15.

"I was familiar with his style and his humor and thought this would be another successful play to direct," Scott said. "It's a lot of fun to watch. It's fun to be in. So it's a win-win for everyone. [This play] is about an older acting couple who've been in the business quite a number of years. Hollywood seems to have not been a very successful arena. They've been overlooked. So they find themselves in their senior years working dinner theater in Buffalo, N.Y., [but] they're still looking for their big break in Hollywood.

"It's an acting family. They have a young daughter who has decided to leave acting and pursue, in her words, 'a real job' and brings home her fiancé for them to meet. ... She returns to the theater to see her parents and all of a sudden she finds herself back in a play because there's been some complications with some of the cast. So it's basically that plus the fact that the older couple gets a phone call that Hollywood is calling, that there is the possibility that they can be in the movie of their dreams," she said, referring to the characters of George and Charlotte Hay.

To be performed at The Legion Theatre, 114 W. Main St. in Cartersville, "Moon Over Buffalo" will be presented June 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. The cast will consist of Donna Young as Charlotte Hay, Patrick Kincaid as George Hay, Lindsay Olsen as Eileen, Ian Gibson as Paul, Douglas Cardoza as Howard, Katie Pflugradt as Rosalind Hay, Barry King as Richard Maynard and Teresa Harris as Ethel.

For Pumphouse Players President Dave Boggess, this production is an ideal way to end the theater group's 2011-2012 season.

"We had a successful season this year. All of the shows were profitable for us and the response to all of the shows was really good," Boggess said. "We had sort of a different mix this year -- a few more comedies than usual. People seem to enjoy those and we're sort of going to continue that next season as well.

"This [play] is written by Ken Ludwig. He's one of the most popular playwrights among community theater groups because his comedies are always sort of madcap and sort of off the wall, and people really enjoy them. ... So it's a lot of fun for the family and anybody that wants to come and see a fun comedy."
