Eagles flying high in summer basketball play

A basketball program with a more sustained history of success may have the benefit of glossing over summer results, but for a program like Excel Christian Academy -- just one year removed from a coaching change -- each victory earned -- whether in season or offseason -- marks another step toward a turnaround.

"I got some coaching friends and we kind of chit chat, and those guys are at more established programs that are used to winning," said second-year Eagles coach Jon-Michael Nickerson. "Their summers are usually trying to work on little knickknack things, but at the same time our summers are more focused on, 'We want to improve our individualism but we want to win at the same time,' 'cause it's important for us to create that winning mentality."
