Round one of Superior Court trials ends, second round begins

Superior Court Judges Carey Nelson and David Smith are preparing for cases anticipated to be tried in their courtrooms beginning Monday that present similar charges to those that have concluded in Judges Shepherd Howell and Scott Smith's courts.

The first set of trials for the month wrapped on June 15 with the following sentences:

* John David Dobbins, charged with theft by taking, sentenced to 12 months of probation to serve six months;

* Robert Earl Randle, charged with child molestation and failure to appear, sentenced to 12 months probation to serve four months;

* Bradley Stiner, charged with five counts of aggravated assault, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and criminal trespass, sentenced to 15 years probation to serve five years;

* Dustin Ables, charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, sentenced to 15 years probation to serve two years;

* Ernie Sullivan, charged with burglary, sentenced to 15 years probation to serve 12 months;

* Zachary Rampley, charged with burglary, sentenced to 10 years probation;

* Lanny West, charged with burglary, sentenced to 10 years probation;

* Gaudencio Santos, charged with trafficking methamphetamine and failure to appear, sentenced to 15 years for the trafficking conviction to serve eight years;

* Steven Carnes, charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children, sentenced to 15 years to serve 90 to 120 days;

* Jonathan Gill, charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, battery under the Family Violence Act and simple battery (F.V.A.), sentenced to 12 months probation; and

* Labron Prescott, charged with two counts of battery (F.V.A.), cruelty to children, interference with custody and criminal trespass, sentenced to 36 months probation.

Beginning this week, according to the District Attorney's office, Nelson has chosen five cases of priority to hear in his court this week. Those cases include:

* Maurice Korrey King, charged with aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and two counts of child molestation;

* John Furtney, charged with false imprisonment and battery (F.V.A.);

* Bobby Watkins, charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and failure to maintain lane;

* Jeffery Gilreath, charged with burglary; and

* David Hall, charged with deposit account fraud.

Judge David Smith has listed four cases of priority for his court, including one three defendant trial. Cases anticipated to sound before Judge Smith include:

* Shondae Levar Banks, charged with three counts of terroristic threats and acts with one terroristic threats and acts special presentment, battery and two counts of simple battery as special presentments and criminal trespass;

* Ronald Dean Murphy, charged with aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime as a special presentment and criminal trespass;

* Antoine Delano Tookes, charged with riot in a penal institution after engaging in mutual combat that resulted in injuries; and

* a three-defendant case involving Lauren Ashley Baxter, charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of Meperdine with intent to distribute, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime with one count being a special presentment; Consuela Earwood, charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of Meperdine with intent to distribute, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime with one count being a special presentment, possession of methamphetamine, possession of amphetamine by ingestion, possession of Meperdine by ingestion as a special presentment and possession of Normeperdine by ingestion as a special presentment; and Jonathan Earwood, charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of Meperdine with the intent to distribute, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime with one count being a special presentment, possession of methamphetamine, possession of amphetamine by ingestion as a special presentment, possession of marijuana by ingestion and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

All persons listed as jurors should report to courtroom D at 9 a.m. Monday.
