"We've never done anything for 'Star Wars' before, but our theme is 'Dream Big,' which goes into a space theme as well," Director of Youth Services Thomas Shalin said. "And who wouldn't, if you're a young kid, love to be a Jedi?"
Patrons are encouraged to dress in "Star Wars" attire, but Shalin says the gear the 501st Legion will have on-site will be hard to beat.
According to its website, "...The Legion is an all-volunteer organization formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts under a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work."
Shalin said the fun surrounding the event, including costumes and door prizes like Lego Star Wars books and a $25 Target gift card, relate to the central theme to Dream Big.
"It's a big dream to meet those characters and to almost feel like you're in the movie," Shalin said. "The characters who are going to come out from the 501st Legion are spot on. The costumes look like they were taken off the set."
Patrons can expect the opportunity to create a "droid" from the franchise and a replica R2D2 character will also be at the event.
