According to a press release, Timothy James Whitener entered his plea in Judge Shepherd Howell’s courtroom and was sentenced to life in prison for the Oct. 17 murder of Juanita Grace Thompson, 49, of 419 Sugar Valley Road.
Thompson was killed at a Weems Spur Road location near her home. Whitener had been located near 31 Weems Spur at the time of the incident after attempting to flee.
At the time of Whitener’s arrest, Thompson was reported missing and a search located her body behind the residence. Thompson died of a gunshot wound.
Whitener pleaded guilty Tuesday to concealing a death, firearms violations and theft. Additional charges of hindering law enforcement were resolved, the release stated.
When he was arrested in October, Whitener had been charged with theft by taking, two counts of financial transaction card fraud, possession of arms by a convicted felon and obstruction of an officer.
Because of the prior felony conviction, Whitener will serve an additional 15 years consecutive to the life sentence.
