Mary Tye Knox, 95, of Alpharetta, died Sept. 7, 2012, after a brief illness caused by complications from a broken hip. She was born Jan. 20, 1917, in Edison, the daughter of Thomas O. and Leta Cowart Tye. A graduate of the University of Georgia in 1937, she met and married her husband of 47 years, Wallace, in 1939. She was a dietician in the Atlanta School System for 29 years. She was a longtime member of the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Jubilations Choir, Sheep Feeders and 54 and More. She was a member and past president of the Alpharetta Friendship Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Knox, and her daughter, Jan Knox. She is survived by her son, Thomas Knox, of Kennesaw, and daughter, June Knox, of Alpharetta; grandson, Wesley Knox and his wife, Julie, of Buford; granddaughter, Rebecca Denney and her husband, Ryan, of Summerville, S.C.; great-grandsons, Hunter Knox and Logan Denney; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

The family will receive friends at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, on Sunday, Sept. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. The funeral service will be at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church, 69 N. Main St., Alpharetta, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, with the remains placed in state at the church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens in Cartersville, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church.
