That was the assessment of Maddie Geiger’s dad who came out to watch his daughter and the rest of the Canes win their fourth straight by defeating the visiting Coahulla Creek Colts, 8-0, Tuesday.
“They (the Colts) beat us the first time around,” Canes coach Rick Holsomback said. “This time around we were able to come through with the key hits.”
The Canes also were able to take advantage of Annalyn Yantis’ dominance on the mound, coupled with a porous Colts defense.
Yantis struck out nine batters and allowed just one hit, a bunt single.
The bunt single came in the top of the fourth, which was followed by a walk and then three straight strikeouts.
“She (Yantis) found our weakness early,” Coahulla coach Rhett Parrott said as his players headed back to the team bus. “We kept chasing the high pitches, and she just kept climbing the ladder throughout the game. I tried to get our players to make the necessary adjustments, but nothing worked.”
What did work for the Canes (4-4, 7-7) was the ability to score three runs in the first and third innings and two in the second.
