Cartersville schools approve contract, policies

During the regular September meeting of the Cartersville City Board of Education, the board approved an agreement with Lockstep Technology Group Services for the remainder of the fiscal year in an amount not to exceed $50,000.

According to a press release, “This agreement will provide consulting and technology design services to upgrade and modify the school system’s technology infrastructure. As a result of a recent technology audit and the system’s receipt of a $2.5 million literacy grant, the school system has identified technology needs for at least the next six years.

“The system has adequate technology for its current use but is not prepared to handle additional technology devices and growing demands on its infrastructure. Instructional technology is and will continue to be an integral part of the instructional program and it is the system’s desire to be prepared for ongoing advances in this area.”

The board also approved clarification changes in board policies, including expanding the language according to state law to require volunteers in the schools to report suspected child abuse and neglect. Another policy modification was to remove the fee schedule for renting out system and school facilities, giving the system greater flexibility to adjust rental fees as dictated by the economy and operating costs.
