The Lady Purple Hurricanes — which hosted the games Tuesday evening, earned a split — falling to the Lady Phoenix but toppling North Murray — while strengthening their grip on fifth place.
The Lady Mountaineers lost to both Sonoraville and Cartersville but still are firmly perched at the No. 2 spot in their area.
“Games played tonight went toward determining the seedings in the upcoming (Class 4-AAA) area championships,” Cartersville coach Camille Spradley said.
Sonoraville had its hands full with the Lady Hurricanes and won two very competitive matches on the evening, 25-23 and 25-20.
Carterville’s Katie O’Conner had 12 attacks and six kills against Sonoraville. In winning both sets against North Murray, 25-15 and 25-19, the Lady Canes were led by Stefanie Will’s 18 attacks and two kills and Mallory Walker’s 16 digs.
The Canes are 12-11 overall with the split of their two matches; 3-2 in Area 4-AAA.
Sonoraville is 24-2 overall and 3-0 in Area 4-AAA. North Murray, also 3-0 in Area 4-AAA, was 11-9 overall before losing to the Phoenix and Lady Canes.
The Phoenix and the Lady Mountaineers are ranked first and second, respectively in Area 4-AAA. Cartersville is fifth.
Cartersville next plays Saturday when it hosts four matches against Northwest Whitfield, North Cobb Christian, North Paulding and Cedartown. The games start at 10 a.m.
