A once winless team has turned doubters into believers, and the Colonels’ faithful fans have reaped the benefits of their team’s turnaround.
Last Friday, in improving to 3-1, Cass snatched victory in a game where it would have faltered in 2011.
Down by 8 points at Northwest Whitfield, and with the Bruins set to attempt a field goal, the Colonels’ Kadeem Buford blocked the kick and raced 81 yards for a game-turning touchdown.
After tying the game with a two-point conversion, Cass later added the decisive score on quarterback Brandon Etheridge’s 31-yard run, which sealed a 25-17 win.
“I’m just so proud of the kids,” said Colonels coach Rick Casko, who described Buford’s play as a great block. “What we’ve done is we’ve won every second half. Every team we’ve played, we’ve ouscored them in the second half.”
“We’re still a work in progress … but the kids are believing. They’re playing hard,” Casko continued. “[It was a] big win last week and then we just [had to] refocus this week [for] a very good Dalton program.”
