Along with pieces from artists featured in the Booth Western Art Museum’s collection, the Downtown Gallery will sell artwork from members of the Booth Artists Guild and the Booth Photography Guild.
“We saw a need to have a space for talented artists associated with the Booth to sell their work,” said Booth Executive Director Seth Hopkins in a news release. “We also wanted a larger space to showcase the reproductions of artwork in the Booth collection we have for sale. Cartersville is becoming a destination for art experiences and Downtown Gallery gives them an opportunity to take art home with them.”
With its inventory featuring a different theme every three months, the Downtown Gallery’s initial offering will be “Artist’s Choice,” which enabled the artists to select their subject matter. With more than 100 artists featured, the opening show will consist of 175 items through Dec. 31, including 120 creations from regional artists.
“We’re so used to exhibiting our work or putting it in a competition but we’re so unaccustomed to putting it up for sale, putting it in a gallery,” said Lynn Henderson, president of the Booth Photography Guild. “It’s so unique and so special to have a gallery that is specializing in photography as one of its three areas.
“That’s what’s special, that there’s actually a photography gallery in town now. So what we’re excited about is this will perhaps bring more visibility to the fact that there is a very accomplished photography guild in this area that people can join for classes and speakers and field trips.”
To celebrate its opening, the Downtown Gallery will hold a pair of receptions, which will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Starting Oct. 6, the venue will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
