Cartersville High’s Katie O’Connor has been named Georgia’s high school volleyball player of the week.

O’Connor, a junior, is a 6-foot, 1-inch middle hitter and blocker for the Lady Purple Hurricanes.

Coach Camille Spradley said O’Connor is important to the Lady Hurricanes for multiple reasons. “She’s our go-to hitter because of the different options she runs.”

The Lady Cane had 38 kills for the week of Sept. 24 to Sept. 30, a period during which she played in eight games and averaged 4.75 kills per contest.

O’Connor also was credited with 17 digs, 14 aces and 11 blocks for the week.

The coach said O’Connor had an even more productive week than usual, helping to produce her huge numbers.

“She had a ton of attempts for the week,” according to the coach.

O’Connor is a statistical juggernaut for the team for the year as well.

According to statistics on MaxPrep Sports, her numbers for the year are 265 kills, 76 aces, 119 blocks and 114 digs.

Spradley said her importance to the team isn’t just in statistics.
