A Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded Wednesday afternoon to a burglary report at 102 E. Valley Road, Rydal.

A home overseer was at the unoccupied residence to check on it for his employer. When he walked inside he heard footsteps and voices coming from upstairs. After going upstairs he saw a blanket, pillow and small radio on the floor.

He left the residence and called 911. While he was waiting, he walked around to the rear of the residence.

The overseer then saw a man wearing a red shirt, blue jeans, black jacket and white and black knit hat allegedly jump from the carport roof and run into the woods.

The deputy cleared the residence and nothing appeared to be missing. According to the incident report, the deputy did see pry marks on the carport door and additional pry marks and a cracked window pane in a window above the carport.

Later that evening, a second deputy responded to the area of Rydal Grocery in reference to a suspicious person. The clothing description matched the suspect.

The suspect was identified as Alton Ernest Jenkins. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant for probation violation and taken to the Bartow County Jail without incident.
