Although coach Colman Roberts would have preferred that his Woodland Lady Wildcats were still competing in the Class AAAAA state softball tournament, he was most happy to learn that four of his players were recognized by fellow coaches in Region 5-AAAAA.

Seniors Taylor Braselton and Lacey Fritz were first team, all-region selections. Sophomore Bailey Roberts was named to the region’s second team, while sophomore Brooke Rogers was an honorable mention.

“It’s great to have these players receive this honor,” Roberts said. “These girls worked very hard during the season, and are very deserving of their selection.”

Braselton, the team’s starting shortstop and leadoff hitter, finished the season with a .392 batting average, going 38-for-97, with one home run and 18 RBIs.

Leading Woodland in home runs and RBIs was Fritz, who has verbally committed to play at Southeast Louisiana next season. She hit five home runs while driving in 29 runs for the 21-12 Lady Wildcats.

Bailey Roberts concluded her sophomore season as the team’s starting center fielder, having a .340 batting average, and leading her team with 26 singles.

Rogers was an honorable mention after posting a 19-11 won-lost record, striking out 85 and having a 2.78 ERA.
