Vanguard Truck Centers made the move earlier this year to add a heavy-duty truck and tractor dealership, service and parts center in Adairsville. Friday, the company invited members of the public to an open house of their new facility.

Located at 180 Princeton Blvd., Vanguard Trucks is a family-owned business with locations in Texas, Arizona and Georgia. Although the company represents several franchises, including Mack, Izuzu, UD Trucks, Prevost and Autocar, the Adairsville location is a Volvo dealership and service center offering new and used truck sales, leases and rentals.

Vanguard is based out of Atlanta and operates their Atlanta service center out of Forest Park. General Manager Frank Fulton said the company has been looking to establish a facility north of Atlanta for several years.

“Adairsville is the perfect location for us with its proximity to the I-75 corridor,” Fulton said. “We have quite a few major customers and accounts in this area and for several years we’ve looked for an opportunity to open a satellite location up here to service those existing accounts and pick up new accounts. We had looked hard at doing that before the recession and then began looking hard again in the past two years.”

The Adairsville location currently boasts about 60 new trucks on the lot totaling roughly $10 million in inventory.

In addition to truck sales, the company services local trucks, provides parts for nearby fleets and services over-the-road trucks from around the nation experiencing mechanical problems anywhere within 50 miles or more of their service center.

“We deliver parts twice daily to our existing customers and generally what we do is deliver parts to fleets that work on their own trucks. And when a fleet needs work done to their truck, we have a pickup and delivery service where we have people pick up trucks and bring them back to be worked on,” said Mike Youngblood, branch manager. “We also have transient customers coming through just about every day. “

Fulton and Youngblood point out that those over-the-road clients work as economic engines by staying overnight in a nearby hotel or motel and eating in local restaurants.

At Friday’s open house, parts suppliers and distributors set up booths displaying their products and services. Customers also were invited, including Cartersville-based Georgia Southern Transportation, owned by Jim Smith.

“I think we bought our first truck with [Vanguard] in 1997 and we’ve been having to go to their other dealership in Forest Park,” Smith said. “So we’ve been buying Volvo trucks and we now have a dealer, service and parts all really close rather than having to go south of Atlanta.”

Vanguard Trucks employs more than 300 nationwide and 13 in Adairsville. For more information, call 770-773-7558 or visit www.vanguardtrucks.com.
