Courtney Bailey and Allison Story join Ballard on the all-region team while Bre Mahrt is an Honorable Mention.
Coach Greg Hight called it “quite an honor” to have four Lady Colonels recognized by region coaches.
Ballard was a shortstop for the Lady Colonels, Bailey was the team’s pitcher and Story played centerfield the most of several positions she was called on to play for Cass. Mahrt was the team’s catcher.
Hight said all four were the team’s leaders.
He said Ballard had very good fielding numbers (.935) and excelled in hitting.
“Her batting average was .507,” Hight said. “I can’t remember any Cass player in the last eight to 10 years having that high a number.
“She may be the first player we’ve had to make player of the year in the region, and we’ve had a pretty good line of kids who’ve been selected for the area all-star teams.”
Ballard accounted for 13 multiple base hits for Cass, hitting nine doubles, a triple and three home runs, and her sneakers accounted for nine stolen bases. She collected 34 hits and her on-base percentage was .539.
Hight noted Bailey, a three-year starter for Cass, had another stellar year on the pitching mound.
Bailey struck out 112 during the season while compiling a 2.67 ERA. She gave up 33 earned runs, allowed 89 hits and walked 41. She worked 111 innings in 22 games. Her overall record was 9-10.
“She had the second highest number of strikeouts in the region,” he said.
