A woman who allegedly placed items into her purse at Wal-Mart carried a bit more than merchandise into the Bartow County Jail Thursday.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office report, Whitney Teal and a second female were stopped as they attempted to exit the retailer by a deputy who placed the women into custody.

During questioning both women stated they had no contraband on their person. Once at the jail, a deputy conducted a pat down and searched the second woman’s purse, finding nothing.

When Teal’s zippered wallet was opened, however, deputies located a baggie of marijuana, “a butt of a blunt, 3 roaches, and 1 small blue pill,” according to the report. Because drugs were found in her wallet, the jail staff conducted a search of Teal’s person. “Another small baggie of suspected marijuana, a small baggie of suspected meth, small baggie with 11 white pills” allegedly fell out of Teal’s pants. She told the deputy the pills were Xanax and Tramada.

She was charged with possession of methamphetamine, drugs to be kept in original container, theft by shoplifting, possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, contraband across guardline, drugs to be kept in original container, schedule IV and schedule III drugs.

Bartow County Fire Department on Thursday afternoon worked a blaze that consumed structures at an Adairsville residence.

Deputy Chief of Operations Dwayne Jamison said the fire in the 4000 block of Joe Frank Harris Parkway was fully involved when BCFD crews from stations 2, 8 and 10 arrived. A garage and outbuilding worth about $50,000 were destroyed.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and no injuries were reported, Jamison said.
