Adairsville’s Toys for Tots
Organized by Adairsville Church of God Rev. Ken Coomer in the mid-2000s, the Adairsville Toys for Tots program is encouraging the community to donate toys at collection sites around the city, including banks and schools. On Dec. 15, qualified families will be able to select three toys and a couple of stocking stuffers for each child, newborn to 13.
For their children to receive assistance, parents or legal guardians need to call the Adairsville Church of God, 770-773-3264, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If approved, applicants must bring the following items with them to the toy distribution — proof of Bartow County residence; picture ID; and a document regarding their children, such as a birth certificate or
Social Security card.
Bartow Christmas Coalition
Bartow Christmas Coalition organizers are planning to assist more than 2,800 people this season. If donations allow, each qualified family will receive nonperishable food items, a gift card and two toys for each child, newborn to 14. A gift card and food items also will be presented to each senior adult, 62 and older during the distribution — Dec. 10 to 13 at the organization’s Toy Store, 222 Nelson St. in Cartersville.
The community can assist Bartow Christmas’ efforts by contributing financially or bringing items to the nonprofit’s Toy Store prior to the distribution week, each Monday to Friday — starting Nov. 26 — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The last chance for Bartow residents to enroll in the Bartow Christmas campaign is Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. Sign-ups will be conducted at two locations: Bartow Christmas Toy Store, 770-386-3399; and North Bartow Community Services, 2397 Hall Station Road in Adairsville, 770-773-3812.

Bartow County DFCS
Bartow County Department of Family & Children Services employees are busy trying to fulfill the wishes of about 180 children in state custody through the Silent Santa program.
Community sponsors who participate in the Silent Santa program receive a wish list that includes information like the child's first name, age, gender, favorite color, clothing sizes and desired toys. While individuals are not required to purchase every item the child requests, they are encouraged to select the gifts with care, as if they are shopping for their own child.
Once purchased, gifts should be returned to DFCS -- 47 Brook Drive in Cartersville -- unwrapped by Dec. 10.
More details about the Silent Santa program can be obtained by calling LeeAnn Henson at 770-387-3736.
Cartersville-based Toys for Tots
Individuals can drop off toys at local collection boxes for the Cartersville-based Toys for Tots campaign. Donors need to make sure the containers are marked "Bartow County," with Richard Goodson and Royce Coker's names and phone numbers to ensure the items remain in Bartow.
Once collected, the toys for newborns to 13-year-olds will be dispersed to pre-qualified families Dec. 15 at Georgia Bone & Joint Surgeons, 15 Medical Drive.
Enrollment in the program will conclude Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the sign-up process, parents and legal guardians of children, will need to bring ID, proof of need — recent paycheck stub or government assistance document — verification of Bartow County address and two forms of ID for each child, such as a birth certificate or Social Security card, to Georgia Bone & Joint Surgeons.
For more information about the Toys for Tots program, call Goodson at 404-593-3547 or Coker at 770-880-6316.

Once purchased, the gifts — totaling $50 to $75 — need to be delivered to Meritan Stepping Stones, 920-A N. Tennessee St. in Cartersville.
Along with donating gifts, area residents also can sponsor a child for Christmas, by making a donation of $10, $25 or $50.
