“[The Great Locomotive Chase Festival] brings a lot more people out than our little Christmas parade but I think [it] just helps people get into the Christmas spirit to know that the community is having special Christmas festivities like that,” Bass said. “I think it just helps get the whole community in the spirit of Christmas.
“[Also], so much of Adairsville now has grown away from the historic downtown. So we try to have as many events down there as we can to bring people back into the old historic downtown. ... We just encourage them to come down [early and browse through the shops] and socialize.”
Hosted by the city of Adairsville and the Adairsville DDA, the festivities will begin at 5 p.m., with carolers from various churches singing in the gazebo, and wrap up with a parade, tree lighting ceremony and pictures of Santa Claus.
With Adairsville Rail Depot Age of Steam Museum and many of the shops staying open and providing refreshments, people are welcome to enjoy the downtown area before the parade begins at 6 p.m. Departing from behind Adairsville Middle School on King Street, the parade’s route will travel down Main Street, Gilmer Street and Railroad Street before returning to AMS. Parade applications, which need to be completed by Monday, can be obtained at Adairsville City Hall. The cost to enter includes $25 for floats and $15 for other vehicles.
In addition to the parade’s entries, awards also will be presented to the best decorated storefront, an award that Alisha Cline’s Cline Photography captured in 2010 and 2011. For the second year, Cline’s shop at 122 Public Square will be taking photographs of children visiting with Santa Claus after the parade. Photography packages will start at $20.
“I really just enjoy the people coming out and shopping with us and getting to know the community a little bit [more],” Cline said. “This will be our fourth Christmas in Adairsville. [Our business and the event] has grown a lot and it’s nice to see people from the past getting to come back in and talk with us, just kind of ... [like] a little reunion.”
