Lady Tigers, Lady Eagles are winners

The Adairsville Lady Tigers got off to a great start in the first round of the Rome News-Tribune’s basketball tournament with their 44-24 victory over Trion Monday.

The Lady Tigers’ victory was their second straight over the Lady Bulldogs.

Adairsville won, 42-30, in its first meeting against Trion.

“We played well tonight,” Adairsville coach Meredith Barnhill said. “We also got balanced scoring to go along with a strong, defensive effort.”

It was 10-6 Adairsville after the first quarter, and 29-23, Lady Tigers at halftime.

Excel 44, Yeshiva 19

Excel coach Michael Roberson was worried that his Excel Lady Eagles lightly the second time around.

And he was right.

The Lady Eagles started slowly but came on strong to win their straight over the Lady Lions, 44-19, Monday night.

“It was a good way to end the year,” coach Roberson, who Excel team does not play again until January 2013.

The Lady Eagles began the year with a 49-7 victory over the same Yeshiva girls tieam.
