North Murray took an early lead but Cartersville roared back with better defensive play, rebounding and ball handling to earn its sixth consecutive win in girls high school basketball Tuesday night.

The Lady Purple Hurricanes took the measure of North Murray, 54-39.

The win didn’t come without challenges, however, as the Lady Mountaineers opened with a 15-6 run after a quarter of play.

“I think we decided to play a little defense and to take care of the ball a little better,” coach Cindy Moore said. “We had 18 turnovers in the first half, most probably in the first quarter. We did a much better job after that. We came out with a big region win, and we’ll take it.”
