The special election will determine who represents Bartow County Board of Education Post 3, as former board member Angie Cornett resigned earlier this month. The $36 fee is set according to a percentage of the board position’s salary.
“It has not changed,” County Clerk Cathy Gill said of the qualifying fee. “It’s based on the salary. It’s a certain percentage of their salary.”
Taylor also appointed attorney Brandon Bowen to the library board. He will replace former County Administrator Steve Bradley.
“We asked Brandon Bowen to do that and he agreed to do that,” Taylor said. “Steve Bradley felt like, since he’s no longer in the commissioner’s office, he needed to step down from that. Brandon accepted that request.”
Taylor also approved a contract to have someone occupy a residence at Bartow Carver Park to help prevent vandalism. The occupant will not be a county employee, Taylor said.
Other commissioner business included the approval to sell surplus road equipment, surplus solid waste equipment and three Bartow County Sheriff’s Office vehicles on govdeals.com.
Taylor also spoke with Ronald Haney, who wished to discuss a number of state laws that applied to Bartow County’s commissioner system.
Gill said Haney could file open records requests with her, while Taylor said Haney was welcome to schedule an appointment if he wished to have a discussion about the laws.
