Severe weather moving through northwest Georgia this morning resulted in a tornado touching down in Adairsville around 11 a.m.

Extensive damage was done to homes and businesses resulting in multiple injuries and one fatality.

Trees, power lines and debris littered the roads in Adairsville after the storm devastated much of the commercial areas on U.S. Highway 41, GA 140 and Interstate 75.

Law enforcement, fire department personnel, Georgia State Patrolmen, EMS professionals, utility crews and officers from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are on scene assessing damages, clearing debris and aiding those injured by the storm.

Emergency response officials urge everyone to avoid the area as crews continue to work. They also remind residents to treat every downed power line as if it were live.
