Continuing a long tradition of local barbershop services, Jonette Roberson began Cartersville Barbershop in December with partners Apryl Cole and Verna White.

Local customers were again filling the chairs at 234 N. Dixie Ave. in Cartersville Plaza, just two months after Professionals Barbershop closed in September. Now home to Cartersville Barbershop, Roberson, Cole and White look to continue the work that had been done by Professionals in the same location since 1965.

“We just absolutely want to continue providing the tradition of a classic barbershop for our customers,” Roberson said. “It is definitely a dying art. Our customers enjoy it and we enjoy it. It offers a nostalgic service and we just hope to continue growing and offering traditional barbershop services.”

Tracing the shop’s roots even further reveals a lineage that began on Wall Street in downtown Cartersville with Service Barbershop, but many of the shop’s customer’s simply remember the Cartersville Plaza location as Professionals and look forward to frequenting the same location as they have their entire lives.

“After it shut down, we took up the opportunity to reopen and go it on our own. We didn’t want the men to suffer, not having a barbershop here. So we’re trying to get the guys back in here that have been loyal customers,” Cole said. “A lot of people want to come back to where they’re used to. A lot of our customers have been coming here since they were little boys, my husband included.”

Cartersville Barbershop focuses their attention on male customers, offering a hot lather straight razor shave or military cuts and flat tops. The straight razor neck shave is included in every haircut, an offer emphasized by the barbers at Cartersville Barbershop.

“We mostly cater to men,” Cole said. “We do the hot lather neck massage and we do a straight razor neck shave for every haircut. If wives or children ask, we’ll cut for them, but it is typically designed for men.”

Cartersville Barbershop also looks to expand its awareness to nearby theatre groups as a source for period haircuts and styles.

No appointment is necessary. Cartersville Barbershop offers walk-in service only. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
