Cartersville’s Ryan Davis did his best in trying to lead the Canes to the third round of the Class AAA state playoffs. Davis scored the team’s final 10 points. His dunk early in the fourth gave the Canes the lead and ignited a Storm Center whose atmosphere until then was stunned by what was taking place Saturday night. In the end, it became apparent that Davis’ shoulders weren’t quite wide enough. With 2.6 seconds remaining in their team’s season, Canes’ fans emptied the Storm Center en masse as the St. Pius X Golden Lions were about to celebrate their 51-44 victory.

Overall, Davis finished with a game-high 20 points. A dozen of those points came in a second half in which the entire Canes’ team scored 18.

“We knew Cartersville had three great perimeter players,” St. Pius X coach Aaron Parr said. “We just played great defense and we were able to get plenty of good looks on offense.”
