Chaz Wilson led Cass at the plate with a three-run blast and earned a victory on the mound as the Colonels swept a doubleheader in the Homeplate Classic in Peachtree City on Saturday.

The Colonels topped Sonoraville, 5-1, and Langston Hughes, 6-2, to improve their record to 3-0.

Adam Williams, Cass coach, said the Colonels did some good things in the tournament.

“Our pitching came through for us and allowed just three runs,” the coach said. “Our pitching definitely gives us hope for the future.”

The coach said the team needs to stay focused.

“It’s like driving at night and you just focus on the 200 feet ahead of your car as you go,” he said. “We have to keep them focused on playing just 200 feet ahead of us and stick to the process.”

Cass 6, Langston Hughes 2

Wilson’s three-run shot helped Cass build an early lead against the Panthers of Region 3-AAAAAA en route to its victory.

Wilson was 4-of-4 on the day. Brandon Etheridge went 2-for-4, drove in one and scored two. He tripled in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning. Alex Yauslin also had a pair of hits while Sam Ayers and Chris Morton provided offense, too.

Langston Hughes got one hit off Wilson, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during his 3 1/3 innings of work.
