Two home runs and solid pitching proved to be a lethal combination for visiting Cartersville (1-2) in its 11-3 pounding of Lassiter Thursday.

Ty Fowler, the Canes’ starting pitcher, pitched four innings of shutout baseball, striking out four while allowing just one unearned run.

Fowler also contributed to the Purple Hurricanes hitting attack that included five extra base hits and five singles with his two doubles and one RBI.

His four innings of hard work were rewarded by a Canes’ offense that scored one run in the first inning, five runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth.

“Our pitching is getting better and better with each game,” coach Stuart Chester said.

Chester went to his bullpen in the fifth inning, bringing in reliever Garrett Rutledge, who allowed two runs in two innings of work. Hayes Linn pitched a scoreless seventh to preserve Cartersville’s first win of the season.
