Canes net 2 tennis wins

Cartersville defeated Coahulla Creek in high school tennis play at Dellinger Park on Tuesday.

The Lady Canes took their matches by 5-0 while the boys decisioned Coahulla Creek, 3-2.

In girls singles play Darian DeFrench won, 6-2, 6-2; Mallory Walker, 6-1, 6-1; and Maddi McGinnis, 6-1, 6-0.

At the doubles line, Charleston Fox and Annabeth Fox won, 6-0, 6-0, and Ali Norwood and Sarah Vaughan earned their victories, 6-0, 6-0.

The Cartersville boys won their matches with a victory in singles play and a pair of wins in doubles play.

Trevor Gotkowski picked up the singles win, 6-0, 6-0.

Nathan Slocum lost, 6-1, 6-7, 5-7, in singles while Drew Adsit dropped his matches, 3-6, 3-6.

In doubles play, Tyler Hill and Matthew Scott won, 6-4, 6-1, and Wyndham Laye and Avery Andrews earned their victories, 6-1, 6-4.

“The doubles teams pulled us through today,” coach Melissa Moore said. “We needed that.”

Cartersville next plays today at Sonoraville at 4:30 p.m.

The Cartersville boys are now 12-1 overall and the girls are 13-0.

Both are 12-0 in region play.
