A Cartersvilled pedestrian died Thursday evening when an oncoming vehicle struck him on Joe Frank Harris Parkway, just north of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on the southbound side of the roadway.

According to a Cartersville Police Department press release, Lance Leston, 52, had just left work at Farmers Furniture. As he headed home, Robert Johnson, 48, ran out in front of the vehicle, according to Leston and a witness. Leston could not avoid hitting Johnson, the press release said.

Leston underwent tests for possible impairment due to alcohol or drugs. No impairment, however, was discovered. The press release said Johnson possessed a can of beer at the time of the accident, approximately 9:40 and 9:45 p.m.

Johnson had been moving from east to west when the vehicle hit him.
