Alvin T. McElrath, 92, of Emerson, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013.

Mr. McElrath was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Chatsworth, a son of the late Alvin A. McElrath and Maude Crook.

Mr. McElrath served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Shaw Industries. He enjoyed spending his spare time outside tending to his yard and flowers. He also was an avid fisherman. Mr. McElrath was a long time member of Emerson United Methodist Church.

Mr. McElrath is preceded in death by his sisters, Iva Nell Edwards, Pearlie Mae Mauldin, Dovie McDaniel and Mattie Lou Orton; his brothers, Gordon, J.R., Clyde, Joe and Marvin McElrath.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Frances Ferguson McElrath; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Alta McElrath of Cartersville; grandson, Richard McElrath of Cartersville; sister-in-law, Wilma McElrath of Ranger; brother and sister-in-law, Arvil and Dollie McElrath of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, from Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Alred officiating. Interment will immediately follow from Sunset Memory Gardens with full military honors.

Serving as pallbearers are Joel Mauldin, Rodney McElrath, Kevin Stephens, Edward Stephens, Jimmy Gainey and Richard McElrath.

The family will receive friends 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 8, from Owen Funeral Home.
