Tigers beat Mountaineers while Colonels shut out

Adairsville overpowered North Murray while Cass got shut out in high school baseball play Tuesday.

The Tigers roared out of the gate against North Murray, scoring four big runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Mountaineers got on the scoreboard in the second inning, to close to 4-1, but the Tigers answered with a run in the third for a 5-1 lead.

The Tigers did not let North Murray cross home plate again in the contest, preserving their victory.

Cody Melton picked up the win for Adairsville, working 3 1/3 innings. He gave up two hits and allowed one run, earned, while walking five and striking out three. Neal Knight finished the job on the mound, working 3 2/3 innings. He allowed two hits but gave up no runs or bases on balls. He struck out four. Aaron Granger took the loss for The Mountaineers.

Providing the offensive muscle for Adairsville were Tyler Washington, 2-of-2 with a double and a run; Hunter Smith, two runs; Dylan Cochran, 1-of-2, one run; 1 RBI; and Cody Melton, one run; Zach Sherwood, 1-of-3, 2 RBIs; and Casey McCrory, 1-of-2, 1 RBI.

Adairsville is 7-10 overall and 3-4 in region play.

North Murray fell to 7-9 with the loss. It is 4-3 in Region play.

River Ridge 3, Cass 0

River Ridge scored three runs in the second inning on its way to defeating Cass, 3-0.

Dylan Williams took the loss for the Colonels, giving up three hits and no earned runs. He struck out eight.

Getting hits for the Colonels were Williams, Sam Russell, Hunter Southern and Chris Morton.

Cass is 11-7 on the season and 4-3 in region play.

The Colonels are to host River Ridge today.
