Phoenix Air announces reduction in force

Over the past two weeks, Phoenix Air Group, headquartered at the Cartersville-Bartow County Airport, has had a reduction in force of less than 10 employees due to the effects of the Congressionally-mandated Sequestration Act which resulted in severe budget cuts to the U.S. Department of Defense budget.

“Several of our DOD contracts have been impacted by Sequestration over the past month, the result of which is a measured reduction in force at Phoenix Air. While all of Fiscal Year 2013’s budget reductions under Sequestration are shouldered in the last half of FY2013 — which ends on September 30, 2013 — we are not seeing encouraging signs from Washington that FY2014 is going to improve,” according to Phoenix Air Vice President Dent Thompson. “Our company flexes up and down according to our work load, and unfortunately this current downsizing of the federal budget requires that we downsize in step.”

Thompson also noted the incident is not without precedent and that a similar reduction in force occurred some years back when other DOD contracts had budget realignments.
