The suspect, identified as Robert Jackson, had been brought in by a witness who was concerned about Jackson being involved with illegal behavior. According to the incident report, a Cartersville officer and an investigator spoke with the witness and two other people aside from Jackson himself. Jackson was in an interview room with one of the witnesses as the officer and investigator were talking to the other witnesses. A short time later, the witness came out of the room with Jackson and reportedly said Jackson had a knife.
The officer made contact with Jackson and told him to hand over the knife. According to the report, it was a kitchen knife approximately 8 inches long. The officer began backing into the hallway as he ordered Jackson to drop the knife.
According to the report, Jackson allegedly had the knife pointing down when he first pulled it out. As the officer began ordering him to drop the knife, Jackson allegedly turned the knife up and pointed it in the officer’s direction.
The officer did have his handgun out, by his side, at this point and Jackson continued to hold the knife in an aggressive manner, according to the report.
After additional orders to drop the knife, Jackson complied and the investigator took him out into the hallway. The officer then moved into the room to retrieve the knife and take it away from the area. When the officer returned, he saw Jackson on the ground with another officer and the investigator on the ground with him. Jackson was placed into handcuffs and then searched for any weapons or contraband.
He was then escorted back to the booking room and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
