The invitation is out at the Woodland High cross country course for runners, walkers, kids and just any folks who like to have fun.

Head football coach Vince DiLorenzo said the course will host a 5K Race to 2013 Kickoff on Saturday that is guaranteed to make a colorful splash for at least one day in the lives of Woodland High football boosters.

That’s because participants not only will be getting a T-shirt to mark their participation but also all the colors of the rainbow will be splashed on them as part of the 5K color run.

“This is the first time we’ve done this,” DiLorenzo said. “We’re looking for people who want to run the 5K and for people who just want to have fun and get a tie-dye T-shirt and get some color packets thrown on them.

“Participants will be drenched in different colors from the neck down. Nothing will be thrown above the shoulders.”

He said participants should expect “just a rainbow of colors” on them after the event, which will benefit Wildcat football.

DiLorenzo said while the colors will be all over runners at the conclusion of the race, they will shower off afterward.

Registration is Saturday at 8 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m.

Registration cost is $30 for individuals with a $25 charge for each member of four-person teams to participate.

All participants will receive a T-shirt.

DiLorenzo said the participants also will be treated to a trip down the cross country course at Woodland, getting the usual treatment of water at water stations.

He said the event isn’t just for runners, though.

“It’s for runners, for people who walk and for kids,” DiLorenzo said. “We want this to be a fun thing. It's all about having fun. It's a new type of event sweeping the country. People who participate will be hit with different color packets so when they finish the race they are essentially tie-dyed.”

The coach said the fundraiser is being coordinated by the Woodland High football team booster club.
