Drug, DUI cases top court calendar

When Bartow County Superior Court convenes Monday, cases topping those expected to be called include a trafficking case and several involving driving under the influence.

Trials will begin at 9 a.m. Monday in the courtrooms of judges David Smith and Carey G. Nelson. The judges released Thursday to the District Attorney’s office a list of those cases expected to be sounded first.

In Smith’s courtroom, two drug cases involving a trafficking amount of methamphetamine are among the seven expected to begin next week. They are:

• Phillip D. Barge — trafficking meth.

• Gerald E. Barron — DUI, possession of meth and failure to maintain lane.

• Candace Martel and Susannah Monarchik —trafficking in meth, conspiracy to traffic in meth, possession of meth with intent to distribute — special presentment, possession of meth — special presentment and illegal use of a communication facility.

• Anthony D. Neal — two counts of DUI and open container.

• Joseph Wayne Brown — six counts of simple battery.

• Scott B. Baker — DUI, operating a vehicle without insurance and failure to maintain lane.

• Thomas Jason Bahr — DUI and failure to maintain lane.

In Nelson’s courtroom, the cases expected to sound first are:

• James Evancho — two counts of DUI, failure to maintain lane and open container.

• Tyler Frederick — driving while license suspended.

• Robert Freeman — simple battery under the Family Violence Act.

• Kuwan Taylor — possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce.

• Clinton Wilbanks — DUI, driving while license suspended and failure to maintain lane.

• Calvin Edwards — simple battery (FVA) and obstruction of an officer.

• Jackie Waits — abandonment of a dependent child.
