Cartersville teams win GRPA District Tournament

everal Cartersville baseball teams participated this past week in tournament play for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Fifth District title. Cartersville was represented by teams in the 8, 10, 12, and 14-and-under age groups.

Cartersville was represented in the 10-and-under age group by three teams. The tournament came down to a championship featuring two Cartersville teams in which Cartersville #1 defeated Cartersville #3 and will represent the fifth district at the GRPA State Tournament in Savannah July 11-13.

Two teams from Cartersville participated in the 12-and-under age group.

Cartersville #1 won the championship by defeating Cartersville #2 16-0. Cartersville #1 recorded 14 home runs during the course of the tournament. The individuals contributing to these numbers were Jake Cooper, Jordan Wells, Preston Welchel and LaDarious Winburn with two each. Gage Morris, Ian Inaba, Garrett Shelton, Brant Smith, Blake Stover and Alan Thacker all had one. Tyler Dilcher for Cartersville #2 recorded three home runs in a single game against Tallapoosa. Catersville #1 will participate in the GRPA State Tournament in Savannah July 11-13.
